Adolescent Accelerators Research Hub

By 2050, Africa will be home to half a billion adolescents. Despite incredible potential, many will be trapped in cycles of poverty, violence, low education and poor health.

The UKRI GCRF Adolescent Accelerators Research Hub generates evidence on which development accelerators – alone and in synergy with each other – can support adolescents in Africa to reach multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as health, safety, schooling, nutrition, and employment. The Accelerate Hub is a partnership between governments, international agencies, NGOs, donors, adolescents and academics in Africa, Europe and North America. It brings together interdisciplinary research teams using trials, cohorts and adolescent participation all focused on supporting children and young people in thriving in the second decade of life: adolescence.

Our unified goal is to promote high-quality evidence to improve the lives of adolescents in resource-limited settings.

The Adolescent Accelerators Research Hub is led by an interdisciplinary team at Oxford University and the University of Cape Town (UCT), with worldwide partners. To contact the Accelerate Hub, email
