A wealth of research by CSSR-linked scholars has been published in a special issue of the Journal of Southern African Studies on "Science and Scandal in South Africa". Co-edited by Rebecca Hodes (Director, ASRU), the issue includes articles on the scientific interpretation of sexual deviance in South Africa (by Rebecca Hodes herself), contested interpretations of jackal predation on sheep in the Karoo (by Nicoli Nattrass and Beatrice Conradie), social responses to HIV in the Eastern Cape (co-authored by former CSSR Masters student Beth Vale), and the use of biometric technology in the administration of cash transfers (by Kevin Donovan, based on his UCT Masters thesis). The Nattrass & Conradie and Donovan articles were previously published as CSSR Working Papers.
